It all began when the two Bens met each other at a recording session at Abbey Road Studios in December 2005. Sharing an interest in electric bowed instruments (they both use Ned Steinberger and Bridge electric violins and cellos) they decided to get together and have a "play".

Commitments to other projects and ensembles meant that it was to be another four months before the Bens were to work together again. In April, Ben Lee was asked to provide his "Electric String Quartet" to back AMICI on their UK tour, and consequently formed ben squared to play the support slot.

Luckily this fledgling group found themselves in the 48 piece string orchestra for the UK tour of Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds" during April, writing a set of pieces for an album and show at the back of the tour bus and in hotel rooms all over the UK!

They released their debut album "SET 1" on 12th May, exclusively available at the AMICI shows and on this web site.
